The Ferrari 488 Pista was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Its name is derived from the Italian word Pista, meaning racetrack. The design of the vehicle is heavily influenced by the Ferrari 488 Challenge race variants, where the vehicle received a lot of mechanical and exterior modifications to make it more capable than the 488 GTB. However, besides the styling cues, the most important upgrades are with the performance department, namely, the turbocharged engine.
The 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine now generates a power output of 720 horsepower and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque at 3,000 rpm due to the use of new camshafts, a larger intercooler, strengthened pistons, titanium connecting rods and Inconel exhaust manifolds in the engine borrowed from the 488 Challenge. In addition, several changes to the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission were also done, allowing for shifts in 30 milliseconds when drivers enter race mode. In order to make it an even more capable performance machine, the vehicle also incorporates a Side-slip Angle Control system having an E-Diff3, F-Trac, and magnetorheological suspension to improve handling at high speeds.
These modifications enable the 488 Pista to accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 2.85 seconds. Furthermore, accelerating from 0-124mph (0-200km/h) takes just 7.6 seconds. Finally, the Ferrari 488 Pista comes with a maximum speed of 340 km/h (211 mph), according to the official figures. Definitely a vehicle that can take on everything it encounters both on and off the racetrack.
