The Mercedes-Benz AMG-GTS is a two-door, two-seat coupe produced by Mercedes-AMG. Revealed to the public in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show, it quickly garnered a lot of interested from potential customers. Consequently, it provided a boost in sales for the high-performance range of the Stuttgart’s car maker. Furthermore, after the SLS AMG, it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. To most, this is the only one true successor to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the McLaren SLR- cars that dominated the high-performance model range from the German car maker in recent years overall.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG-GTS comes powered by a front-mid mounted 4.0 Liter V8 twin-turbo engine delivering 610 horsepower and a whopping 650 N·m (479 lb·ft) of torque. This is good enough to propel it from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in just 3.7 seconds. The Mercedes-Benz AMG-GTS will reach a top speed of 190mph (310km/h).
In contrast to large-series production, Mercedes-AMG in-line 4, V8 and V12 engines are traditionally assembled by hand, utilizing the “One Man – One Engine” philosophy. This means that a single AMG technician assembles the complete engine, where is fully responsible for everything in the engine. This means he installs the crankshaft in the engine blog, he assembles the camshaft and even the cables and the oil are filled by the same person – all finalized nicely, with a signature is then put on the engine plate.
This Mercedes-Benz AMG-GTS “Edition 1” is further refined thanks to a RENNTech tuning solution. RENNtech lightweight forged billet turbo wheels feature a dramatically larger than stock impeller (inlet side) and an increase in the turbine trim (exhaust side). This combination of high quality, light weight components compensates for turbo lag despite being a functionally larger turbo. The cartridge supporting shaft is also both larger and stronger designed to handle the larger wheels and additional power. This entire cartridge is then fine balanced as a complete assembly to compensate for these increases. The impeller and turbine housings are then precision CNC machined and flow tested in-house to fit the larger internal cartridge. The end result is nothing short of spectacular with the RENNtech turbo package gaining up to 180 hp and 161 lb-ft.
Furthermore, the AMG-GTS is graced with a set of ADV10 M.V2 CS Series wheels. These lightweight wheels fit the tuned Mercedes-Benz AMG-GTS perfectly. Sized 20×10 in the front and 21×12.5 in the rear, they fill the wheel arches perfectly. Thanks to a Brushed Aluminum w/ Clear finish, it gives the dark gray vehicle a welcome tuned look.
