The Subaru WRX STI may be a popular and highly sought after platform for the younger “boy racer” crowd, hell I remember all I wanted for years was that symphony known as the Boxster rumble. But much like my pallet for drinks, my taste has matured. Mountain Dew has now been replaced with craft beers & fine wines and JDM Stance has been replaced with refined European luxury and sports cars. But who’s to say I can’t still enjoy a good ol’ Mountain Dew every now and again. Make it a Code Red.
Our friend ADV.1 Fish has had his fair share of Porsches and BMWs, but much like ADV.1 Wheels President, Jordan Swerdloff and his 1978 Datsun 280z, we all started somewhere and for many of us it was a Japanese domestic vehicle that we poured our entire minimum wage check into. The nostalgia alone is worth picking up a Japanese sports car, theres just something about being able to wrench on your own car and build something great that will always be satisfying. Modern JDM cars have come along way, no longer are they stickered up tin cans with 4 cylinder engines strapped to them. Leather and Alcantara interior trim pieces, in dash vehicle performance monitoring, and 300+ horsepower may be something you’d expect from a $50,0000 dollars Porsche Cayman but now those features come standard in the 2016 Subaru WRX STI for about 20 grand less.
Like I mentioned before being able to work on your own car is great, but what’s even better is being able to work on your car with friends and we’ve got some awesome friends. Like Cobb Tuning who provided us with an Access Port and custom tune, BC Racing supplied a set of their BR Coilovers, and Corsa Performance equipped our car with their RSC Exhaust System. Visually the car was transformed thanks to The Sign Savers applying a matte clear protective wrap over the entire car and aero parts contributed by APR Performance. The car was completed with a StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kit poking out from behind our new ADV06 M.V2 Competition Series Forged Wheels.
